How HireForge hiring-fit scores work (and what they are not)
A transparent look at how HireForge estimates fit against a real job posting — factor breakdowns you can act on, not a black-box prediction or a guarantee.
When you upload a resume and a job URL, HireForge returns a hiring-fit score with a factor breakdown. The score is a structured estimate of how well your evidenced experience matches what that posting asks for — not a promise you will get an interview or an offer.
What the score is measuring
- Overlap between skills and tools on your resume and those named in the posting.
- Evidence depth — whether you can show shipped work, not just a keyword list.
- Gaps that show up often for that role type, weighted by how central they are to the posting.
What it is not
- Not a guarantee of an interview or offer.
- Not a substitute for networking, referrals, or interview performance.
- Not a claim that every requirement in a posting is enforced equally.
Same resume, two postings — how the breakdown moves
Below is an illustrative HireForge-style run: one simulated resume scored against a matching posting and a stretch posting. Notice which factors drop when the stack does not match — that is the product working as intended.
Simulated resume — Generalist IC (cross-vertical demo)
Same mid-career profile scored twice: once against a posting that matches evidenced skills, once against a stretch role with missing stack.

Strengths
- Transferable fundamentals remain
Gaps / risks
- Named requirements lack evidence
- Seniority / stack gap is visible
Overall hiring score — match vs stretch

Why the breakdown matters more than the number
The point of the score is the factor list: which gaps to close first, and which parts of your background already match. That is useful whether you are in software, finance, or science — the posting changes; the method stays the same.
